Client Challenge
The client needed to understand how to effectively segment and identify influential stakeholders across three different dermatological disease areas in the UK and Ireland. They sought to raise awareness in their chosen therapeutic areas and required clear visibility of specialists who held the most influence across all three diseases.
A critical aspect of this challenge was determining which KOLs would be most receptive to collaboration and identifying specialists working across multiple disease areas to enable efficient and effective engagement strategies. The client also sought to improve their working practices, to reduce siloed ways of working, and develop a cross-functional strategy for several new product launches.
Our Approach
Pi Healthcare conducted comprehensive KOL mapping across the UK and Ireland, identifying a total of 1,835 Key Opinion Leaders. We worked collaboratively with the client's various business units Marketing, Regulatory, Medical, Market Access, and Public Affairs to create structured stakeholder overviews with tailored data segments according to each team's specific requirements.
Our mapping process identified over 50 different specialties, including professionals outside traditional dermatology who held significant influence in the disease areas. This unrestricted approach uncovered valuable stakeholders that might otherwise have been overlooked, such as a leading specialist in psychological support for dermatology patients who was highly active across patient organisations and journals in all three disease areas.
We developed in-depth profiles for selected KOLs and uploaded these to a custom-built online platform, ensuring easy access and appropriate segmentation for different teams.
Key Outcomes
The client gained complete visualisation of stakeholder involvement across all three disease areas, enabling informed decisions about investment opportunities based on KOL openness to collaboration and cross-disease specialisation. The custom online dashboard provided a single access point where relevant teams could easily access detailed profiles of key experts, segmented appropriately for their specific needs.
This comprehensive mapping delivered actionable intelligence that identified advantageous engagement opportunities and facilitated a full review of their stakeholder strategy, which has since been celebrated by the global team as an example of best practice which they aim to replicate across additional markets.
