Changing the Treatment Narrative in Haematology

APG Mapping

Client Challenge

A top-10 global pharmaceutical company sought to transform the treatment narrative in haematology by addressing a critical societal issue: unequal access to medication. Patient care pathways were creating a range of barriers between healthcare practitioners and patients in treatment decision-making, resulting in poor diagnosis-to-treatment ratios.

The client needed comprehensive situational awareness across the global haematology landscape to identify the most influential organisations and understand where to focus their health equity efforts. Their strategic objective was to collaborate with patient organisations to drive policy change, enhance medical education, and champion the patient voice, to promote equitable access to life-changing treatments.

Our Approach

We conducted a global Advocacy, Policy & Government mapping spanning 3 regions, 21 markets, and 20 US states, including 365 organisations working to drive change in haematological diseases. Our proprietary scoring methodology systematically identified the most influential advocacy, policy, and government organisations in each market, including key personnel and networks of collaboration. We profiled each organisation's activities to build up a picture of the key policy issues in the space, and the organisations capable of driving change.

A critical component involved analysing historical engagement patterns, determining whether organisations have a track record of successfully collaborating in strategic partnerships. This intelligence informed our recommendations for broadening engagement, helping the client to design a coherent set of actions tailored to each market and aligned to their strategy. We delivered in-depth reports, highlighting key advocates and activities across the world, supplemented with executive summaries and context-sensitive action recommendations for each market.

Key Outcomes

Our bespoke analysis provided a framework of key organisations with clear, actionable steps for engagement. The deliverables offered greater situational awareness that directly informed the client's strategic planning process.

Ultimately, our mapping empowered the client to achieve their strategic goals of driving policy reform, enhancing medical education, and strengthening patient voices. The work contributed to reframing equitable access and rebuilding trust between patients and healthcare experts in treatment prescribing decisions, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in haematology care.
